Egg Laying Behavior - 1st Timer Question "Pulsing/Clutching Vent" CornishX

Still no egg. Can't put off a trip into civilization any longer, my wife's Rx needs picking up.

The chickens have been doing this for millions of years longer than I've been on this rock. Going to let nature take its course, and stop pacing like a soon-to-be grandmother. Will update when I get home in a few hours, hopefully have an answer by then.

Thanks all!

Mine has done that for a long time (she’s 7 months) she’s not laying yet but she does it.

Still no egg. Still up top. Still frequently standing and doing that clutching thing with her butt - the gluck gluck gluck is come and go.

Time will tell, but I'm more relaxed about it, and I've got a fresh bag of oyster shell (50#) so I don't find myself running out again unexpectedly.

Thanks all. No eggs this AM from any of my girls - my Comets begin week 17 tomorrow, so they are arguably "late", and the cX whose unusual behavior triggered this thread is back to acting completely normally again.

I'll continue to monitor, but less stressed about it now.

I don't consider any chicken late till well after 20 weeks.

For some of my breeds, 20 weeks would be early - the comets just happen to be famed egg layers, I assumed the 16 weeks claim EVERYWHERE on the internet and the literature would be "firmer" than most. Guess not.

/edit and still no eggs. Ducks are getting busy though. Too many drakes, not enough room in the fridge for them. Forget room in the freezer.

It may be somewhat common. Some of the claims may be braggadocio. I just don't think any chicken laying eggs before 20 weeks to be a good idea.
I could be wrong about that but that is my belief after over 30 breeds.
That said, I don't do hybrids.
