Hi all,
I'm specifically interested in Canada geese for these questions, but since most people probably don't have personal experience with them, I would like info in general from people who have had a lot of experience with any kind of geese. It's probably similar enough.
1) What is the usual egg laying interval? 1 a day, 1 every 2 days?
2) It probably varies from goose to goose, but is it usually consistent for each goose? For example, always 2 days apart for goose A, 1 day apart for goose B, or do they sometimes start out slow -- lay an egg, then nothing for a few days, and then start laying them more regularly?
3) Can geese control their egg laying? Do they have the ability to time it or stop it if they get sick or injured?
4) What is the longest egg laying interval that people have experienced with their own geese?
5) What is the shelf life of eggs that have not been incubated yet? That is, how long they are still viable before they must start being incubated.
I've seen things that say only 7 days, yet I've heard of geese laying as many as 9 eggs and all hatching. Even with the shortest interval of 1 egg a day, that would make 8 days between egg 1 and egg 9, and if the interval is even longer, it could be as many as 16 days between them.
6) What is the longest "shelf life" that people have experienced with their own geese?
Thank you for any information.
