My duck just recently just laid her first egg about 5 days ago, ever since she hasn't laid one again. Nothing has changed in her diet or water change schedule. I've also made sure to check every nook and cranny for an egg. She also doesn't seem to like her nesting boxes as she strips them bare of my the pine shaving and laid her first egg on the ground. I was just wondering if their is any information y'all could give me get her laying more. Not sure if it's common for them to go periods of time after laying the first one. Any help would be appreciated.

They're not egg laying machines. They are animals that sometimes feed us breakfast when everything goes well.
When they lay their first egg, it isn't like the production switch was turned on. The ovaries and by extension, the oviduct needs time to get in synch.
Patience is a virtue - and I want it now!

Even once they get into a steady laying routine you can have fluke days. Ours chickens (14 that lay now) have been consistently averaging 9-11 eggs per day. Saturday they only laid 6. When they first started laying they were even more irregular. Give her time :)

Oh my Runners and Buffs like to have a different location in their house every night when laying so last week they had them buried so good in the shaving [usually they are just in a small indention] I walked in and heard crack yep I'd stepped on one it was a bobby trap set for me :hmm

This is what happened with the first egg. I knew they should be laying anytime soon and they had them buried for me. What a great surprise to see the first egg you get is cracked. Well at least it is a great memory!

Kind of a crapshoot with even the best laying ducks mine free range and you will find they prefer to hide their eggs outside and you wouldn't believe how many I have stepped on in the shavings buried then sometimes I go in and there they are...also it's not unusual for ducks to skip a few days depending on the breed hun so don't panic it should be ok;)
