Egg laying issue

Thanks...there are sunflower seeds in the scratch mix, but I will duck down town and grab a bag of just sunflower seeds.....I don’t think I can go as far as fish guts though :sick Could I do the rest of the fish? Like tuna, sardines ect?
Tuna etc. needs to be in low salt water if you buy the cans. Cat chow is also good. Fish pellets are extremely high in protein so use sparingly.
Remember that a steady diet of high protein can also cause problems. I think I would do it for a month at most then re-evaluate :)

Some of them are....definitely may be contributing to her 'problems'.
Curious, how hot is it there?
OK, googled south Sydney and seems pretty mild...so excessive heat is not a factor?

Not really 'better', OS stays in the system(gizzard) longer so better chance of continual absorption.

she is a huge stress head.

We are way way way south of Sydney, we are rural, we have been having a heat wave this week, temps between 37c to 42c. ( 98.6 to 107.6f) .

in the past few weeks, the temps have been hovering about the high 30c’s, also we have been getting a lot of bushfire smoke in the air too not sure if it could be a factor.

We have a cat food variety here that is all natural, so might look to getting that one, it has no added nastiness,

Ah, glad I asked. Clicking your location took me to southern sydney...anyway.
Is it humid or arid?
ETA: I'm sure the smoke can affect the birds detrimentally, read stories about that with the California fires.

Might give the flock a dose of electrolytes.

Hot weather blurb:
Deep all day shade is best but....

I give a dose of Sav-a-Chick electrolytes/vitamins about once a week during heat waves. It really seems to help....started this after they saved a heat stroked hen once.
Can mix up a smaller amount, just wrap the packet tight and store in a dry cool place.
Always have plain water available too.

BIG(9x14x2") chunks of ice last all day for wading, sitting, and sipping.
Much more useful to the chickens than frozen foods and treats.

Make space in your freezer!

Look at the sodium content. I think cat food has a lot of fat too. Tho it seems an easy way to give animal protein, there are better choices.

Thanks guys for all you advise, sadly she passed away over night. Not sure if it was her “issues” , the heat or the relentless smoke we are having.

In the last two days she had dropped two eggs from the roost, no shells, no membrane, just the yolk and white.

She had seemed fine though, she showed no signs at all that she would be checking out.

Oh no, sorry to hear!
Your weather makes it to our news here. And the fires.
Stay safe, stay cool, Merry Christmas!

oops - sorry I got here too late.... it is probably stress from the fires and smoke in the air and the tension from everyone around. Strangely it seems that animals pick up our tension very easily!
