Egg laying song but no egg

This morning as my chickens were out free ranging I heard the egg laying song. I ran out side to find my 18 week old buff orpington run out of the bushes singing the egg laying song. We searched and searched, but couldn't find an egg. IDo chickens practice singing the egg laying song before they actually begin to lay eggs? We are really excited for our chickens to begin laying.

My pullet did sing the song before she began to lay but likely it will be very soon for your bird. She's preparing.

My 21 week BO did the same thing just now! I heard bukbukbukbukbukbukAUKbukbukbukAUKbukbuk... and ran out to find her perched on the kids' seesaw singing with the whole flock crowded around watching her! They free range so I searched but didn't find any egg. Curiously, she's one of the pullets with a smaller, pinker comb still. Definitely not as red as some of my other pullets. How soon do y'all think it'll be??

Thats exactly what my little 15 week runt buff orpington did in the evening inside the coop. I was so excited, but then there was no egg

She's likely just practicing. But, if you hear all of them singing at once and it's a higher intensity, that is the alarm call.
