I got a video yesterday of Pearl laying her egg. I continued videoing to catch the "trance" after laying and then some interesting nesting behavior.

Huh...was there only one egg in nest when she when in to lay....I didn't see her egg drop??
She had some significant contractions.
The grabbing things and putting them into the nest is a camouflage thing.....
.....looks like she' on to get it done then on her way!
Some birds do it before they lay, putting bedding on their backs.
Why is that fencing in front of nests...to keep a dog from stealing eggs?
Great video .. thanks for sharing GingersHuman
It was interesting for me to watch. I have never seen a chicken standing while laying an egg. The only time my gals stand in the nest box is getting in and getting out. Laying is done pancaked in the box. Not that they trance as such but some of them will linger on the egg for a while.
That might be because I have bantams who spend more time broody than they do laying![]()
Really?!?! Every bird I've ever seen laying, and I've seen quite a few, stood up at least halfway when that egg was ready to come out and drop.It was interesting for me to watch.
