Egg laying while roosting

I’m having one hen laying while roosting at night everyday for the past 3 weeks. Roost is 28inches off the ground and the nesting box is across the coop (6ish feet away) I lock them up everyday 45min after dark and there isn’t any eggs on the floor, but when I let them out in the morning (6:30) there’s an egg on the ground. They roost close together so it’s a little challenging figuring out which one is doing it. Any suggestions on getting her to either lay in the box in the morning would be appreciated

Is this potentially a new layer? Sometimes a late or early egg will surprise them while they're roosting, while their reproductive system is still working out the kinks. I've had I think 3 roost eggs.

She’s been laying for over a year now, newish coop though they’ve been in it just over a month
I've read the egg cycle is anywhere from 22-26 hours. Maybe she's at an awkward stage where her eggs are all ready to be laid at night?

Hmm... Could you put a camera in the coop so you can watch from your phone? Then you can see who's doing it and when.

Yeah I was thinking about trying that. Do you think adding a light in there to turn on early in the morning would possibly help?

I think it will sort itself out, if you do nothing. I would make the bedding deep under the roosts - so the eggs don't break.

I am assuming the other birds are laying in the nests, and you have fake eggs in the nests. Pictures might really be of help.

Most of them are laying in the box but some find a corner and lay I’ve got 9 birds ( 1 black star 3 Australorp and 5 prod reds) I get 6-8 eggs daily, most are laying in the box and 1-2 in the corner and always one off the roost
I’ll update with photos ASAP
