Hi everyone,
New chicken mom to silkies and a Rhode Island Red. They are 2 and 3 years old, since I’ve had them (only a week) they haven’t laid any eggs. Do they stop during the winter? Or is it because of their age? Thanks for the help!
Silkies ley until they die pretty much. But chickens only start laying at the least two weeks after you get them. It takes time for chickens to get used to seed and new homes, I wouldn’t worry
The combined factors of being moved to a new home and short day light period have both impacted their egg laying. They will lay once day light period increases. The silkies will never be prolific layers.
I agree with everything above, they are probably still getting used to the new place, and they usually slow down in winter (mine really slow down) Don't worry too much about it
