Egg laying

I have pullet hens I hatched in May, I got 17 eggs today. This is the welsummer's 1st egg.

Welsummers do take longer to lay. My brown leghorn was the first.

As far as having lights on them, I do, and we have full winter here, (foot of snow). I don't know how long it will take for them to lay, just putting a light on them, but if my light goes out even for a day I notice a difference.

We got ours from tractor supply on June 25, and I believe they’re around 2 or 3 days old when you buy them. I’m excited to see my first egg! Does the fake egg help them to lay in the boxes?

I got my first egg this morning! Way earlier than I expected. She laid in the corner of the coop though. How can I encourage her to use the nesting boxes?

This is my nesting box used from scrap wood. I plan to put a back on it that opens for easy egg collecting and added nesting material a few days ago. Is it too small?
