Egg laying

There is lots of bad information about guineas on the Internet.

What time of year guineas start laying has to do with where they are located. The more southern they are in the northern hemisphere, the earlier they lay. The southern hemisphete is the opposite.

The older the guinea hens are the later in the season they begin laying.

The earliest my guinea hens started laying was in late April.
I’m in ETX. I purchased her Feb 23rd so she was somewhere around a few days-1 week old. Not sure when she is “supposed” to lay based on my location and when she was hatched but that’s all I’ve got haha

She does not look old enough to be laying yet.
Well idk what to say because the other ones are younger, the eggs were in the locked coop, and they definitely aren’t chicken eggs.

Just to update, I finally got another egg today. 10 days later. But the temps have been cooler for 3 days so maybe that’s another factor. It’s only 87 with feels like 94. Instead of- 95 with a feels like of 110. And it’s been mostly cloudy. This one looks weird though.

I decided even though they aren’t fertile to just start leaving them for a bit to see if she attempts at any point to lay on them

Top egg, the day before yesterday, right egg was yesterday, the largest egg was from today. It took her 10 days from the first 2 eggs (she laid 2 within 10 hours)

Also- she laid them on the ground. I put them in the box, and yesterday she was sitting in that box. They are not fertile but after 7 days I will remove one each day and keep rotating out and in a few weeks I will check to see if any have started to be fertilized. I have not seen the males try to mate her yet. They are still a little young, but just incase I am leaving them so she is able to find them

Many people never see their guineas mate. It can happen very quickly.

Awesome to know. I will wait a couple of weeks and crack one open to check. I just highly doubt they will be fertile with the males being 4 weeks younger or more.
It seems she will be more consistent now.

And one reason she may look younger, she was chased by a dog early on and was kept inside much longer than she should have been as she was the only bird left (the dog killed the others, the dog was rehomed the same day and the coop was fixed). I’m not saying it stunted her growth, but she grew very slow compared to the others who did not experience that trauma and spent about 7-10 days inside, vs her 8 weeks inside. So my opinion-they grow much better free ranging, and it shows here.
