egg laying

First year pullets lay without much light assistance and won't moult heavily until they are 18 months of age. You cannot really compare their performance their second winter with their first winter. We've found we can help them through their second winter moult by upping the protein quality of their feed to 24%. We also provide them with SOME supplemental light for their second year. Our winter days fall below 8 hours of light. We supplement to provide 11-12 hours and they do just fine.
