egg membranes

My two buff Orpingtons have been laying for about a month and the membranes in their eggs are very tough/ strong. I have to really work to get through them. I haven't had that problem before....any ideas?

Are you comparing to store bought?

Mine are harder to crack than store bought eggs. I just assumed it was a fresh egg thing.

I remember the membranes being really tough for the first few months now that I think about it. I would crack the egg on the pan and the shell would break away but the membrane held. I had to poke through it with my fingernails and basically tear it in half.
Now that those girls are older, it seems to have gotten thinner and I don't have to wrestle as much.
