I was accustomed to having 4-5 eggs per day from my five pullets. A month ago my feed supplier was out of my usual chicken feed so I had to buy a 16% protein feed. I had to go out of town for two weeks, when I got back I started to usually get only two eggs per day. In the past two days I have found two Partially eaten broken eggs on the ground and one mostly eaten egg in the nesting box.

I have two questions:
1) Are they eating the eggs because the 16% protein is to low ?
2) would it be a good idea to slant the bottom of the nesting boxes so that eggs roll into a place where the chickens cannot get to them ?

Did the eggs have thin shells and look like they'd naturally broken open, or did they have regular shells and look like they were pecked open?

Roll away nest boxes can help with egg eating. I don't have any experience with one myself but the principle is pretty simple - if they can't get to the egg they can't eat it.
