Hey! I am relatively new to raising chickens, but I had this issue. Here's my story; I had a hatching of 23 chicks. I figured I'd sell the ones I couldnt handle, my coop fits '25' but it's really not ideal, it was quite crowded. I ended up having trouble letting any go, and my coop only has 5 egg boxes.. boxes that were simply open spaces connected to their main living space without any separation. They started laying everywhere, under their run, in their bedding, under their roost.. It was awful. I didn't know what to do, and suddenly I started not finding any eggs, and realized that my hens were eating all their eggs. SO I sold some hens to good homes. I was down to 7, but still the egg eating. I couldnt keep straw in the nest boxes because they were connected to the main section, so I added in a board that only barely lets them squeeze in through the top. Added a ton of straw to the boxes, and now I get 7 to 8 eggs daily. It was like night and day with it, it was so amazing. My easy fix was making their nest boxes more nest-like and a nest that they can't walk around in, too. What sort of nest boxes do you have? Are they roughly the size of your hens with privacy and bedding? Hope this story helped..
