Egg Peritonitis Help

Go back and read post #8.

You will choke on a big pill. Your chicken will not. Stuff it into her beak, and let her close her mouth. The pill will disappear like magic.
I gave her the calcium tab! Took me a bit to figure it out but I woke her up and got it in her! She wouldn’t drink any water after.. she won’t choke? I’m sorry! I’m such a worrier! I’m glad to have gotten that calcium into her overnight. I’ll work on the antibiotics as well. Thank you so much for your help tonight

Good morning everyone. I’m grateful Margaret is here another day with us! I’m always so nervous walking out to the coop in fear she may not have made it through the night. 😔♥️ she seems the same as yesterday. She woke up, walked around the run and went back to stand in “her sick corner”. I brought her inside because I just can’t see her standing in the cold when she can be in the “hospital bucket” I made her. She did poop twice this morning, watery with a little solid. She isn’t interested in food this morning although she may have two small meal worms. I gave her some electrolytes via syringe. She is just relaxing with me. I assume I give her another calcium tablet today as well...I’m going to order amoxicillin as well today. Anything else I can be doing? Do you think she is in a lot of pain? That breaks my heart if so.. also, is it ok to have her inside with me. I bring her outside when it warms up to see her flock mates for a bit each day as well and she still sleeps with them which she seems to like... they are very close. I appreciate you all so much! I love this girl and just want her to heal. 🐓♥️

She is eating some worms right now! 😊 that is the only thing she will eat! She keeps doing a little clicking thing with her mouth too... not sure if that’s anything!

Glad she's hanging in there. It's good to have her inside. She's sick and sick chickens needs to be kept warmer than well chickens. Also, you will need to be keeping an eye on her poop and monitoring it for any sign of that possible stuck egg or remains.

She needs plenty of fluids, so keep pushing the electrolytes. If you have Poultry Nutri-drench, give her a dose.

You also want to keep an eye on her vent and if it looks like it's protruding and starting to prolapse, it will require treatment, as well. That's another good reason to have her inside. A prolapse is fair game for the other chickens. You dont need to be dealing with an injured vent.

Start her on the respiratory antibiotic. If she has an infection going, it needs to be tackled right away. When the amoxi comes, you can switch her over. My post office, by the way, is way behind on deliveries, probably the sabotage preceding the election and holiday mail. All the more reason to use the antibiotic you have. If your PO is affected, it could take a bit longer to get the amoxi.
