Egg piercing

anybody pierce the broad end of the egg at lockdown,? friend of mine does and says hatch rate improved when he started, fewer chicks dying in the eggs.

I think what he's referring to is a safety hole, and no, I wouldn't recommend doing it at lockdown, but after an egg internally pips, if it doesn't make progress for 24 hours, I will usually put one in.
