Do you put eggs in the incubator point up or down? Or does it matter? Sometimes I cannot tell which is the point. I know on day 16 you put them on their side.
And actually, there are many people here who don't lay them on their sides at lockdown, either. They keep them large end up in egg cartons, and hatch them that way.
I don't have any personal experience with it (though I'm sure others that do will chime in here!), but it's apparently quite a successful method for keeping the hatching mess down, and keeping the hatched chicks from mangling the unhatched eggs.
Eggs should be 'egg shaped' and you should be able to tell which is the narrow end and which is the large end. It is true that the occasional egg is difficult to tell, but in my opinion, this is not a good egg to hatch.
