That is the going rate around here too. It is all about supply and demand. In an area where there are a lot of people raising chickens for eggs there is more supply than demand.
We have laying hens for eggs so I feel better about feeding them to my family cause I know what they are eating and that they are not abused in the process. We raise roosters for meat for the same reasons. I am not in this for a proffit but I do have extra eggs. If I didn't have people wanting to buy them I would give them away. All my neighbors have their own fresh egg supply.
I just think of it like this. If I make $8-$10 a week on eggs then that buys a bag of feed and I have all the eggs I need for my family too so everybody wins.
I now have13 hens and get 8 to 12 eggs a day.
My DH's point is that we don't really need $10 out of our eggs a week. We are not making a living off our ladies that was never the reason we got chickens.
