It seems like forever since my older hens have laid an egg. But today one of my older ladies layer an egg. This is a sign spring is coming! Anyone else have older hens starting to lay after winter?

Yes! I'm relatively new to chickens. Last july I was given 3 easter eggers and was told that they were about 2 years old. In hindsight, I believe they are a few years older. I was able to enjoy their green eggs for about 4 months, then they stopped laying. I had already determined 2 weeks ago that I was going to have to take them to auction because For practical purposes I can't just keep feeding non-layers. Well, lo and behold, yesterday one of them gave me the first green egg in 5 months. Thank goodness, because I didn't really want to cull them.
