Is it safe to leave a fertile egg in the rain for one day. It was pouring down one day and we thought it was be safe to incubate but they didn't fully develop. Is it safe to steal another bird's egg like a duck or and let a different breed of duck sit on it? Or with a chicken and another breed hen or pullet. Or even a cock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could figure out what the question was, I'd try to answer!

But I can assure you that a rooster will not incubate anyone's egg.

Well actually I've seen photos of roos 'setting' a clutch of eggs, captioned that the owner swears that the roo was a devoted setter and actually hatched the clutch. <shrug>, but, you know

A chicken egg left out in the rain for a day or more is probably not going to be a good bet for hatching (not saying it's impossible, but probably a high risk for exploding and thus maybe not so smart to try); waterfowl eggs, probably ok AFAIK.

Breed does not matter in terms of who's setting whose eggs.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
