Egg shell changed color

We have 2 hens, both are still laying eggs. Both eggs are brown to dark brown. Today there was a cream color egg in the nest. Why did this happen?

Painter malfunction? I hear it happens sometimes... I have had a couple of eggs with "overspray" so I am assuming you could get one that they forgot to turn the sprayer on...?

Does the shell itself feel different? Sometimes I get those and the shell feels a bit like sandpaper.
