Correct......Your not a Chicken.....Mine eat Frogs, grubs, seeds, dig in horse poop.....They do not raid my fridge for table scraps or the garbage....

Cheers!
My chickens eat any toad or frog that come in the pens and if I try and get it from them, they just quickly gobble it up. So odd. Before having chickens, I would not have thought ! Haha. Silly chickens.

I personally feed my chickens egg shells every once in a while with no problems. If I accidentally drop an egg in the coop the run to it, peck it and then walk away with no interest. I think that everyone gets different experiences because all chickens are different. Just have to decide if you want to take the possible risk.

Hello,
No risks in feeding back the egg shells at all...Only use the shells from your own birds..Crush and mix with oyster shell..

Cheers!

What about store bought eggshells if you bake them, any thoughts

I was taught to only use the shells from your own birds...Not store bought eggs.....Can not give you an answer as too why???
I'd only feed my own because their diet and conditions are known (and acceptable) to me. I'm picky about my food, so no GMO (for one thing) and I won't support the battery cage egg industry.

IMO it's one of those "because they said so" issues. If it doesn't make sense, do a bit of research, and then, make your best common sense decision. So many "they said so" issues are just meant to be challenged, IMO. With shells from "away" I might heat them to kill any potential pathogens. But, then... if I'm being that cautious, by the same mind set, I'd not let my birds have any food scraps from grocery store.

The problem is that feeding your chickens egg shells will not solve any problems. There are way too many problems and work already involved in keeping chickens to create more work and problems for yourself by saving egg shells to feed back to your birds. It seems that calcium is absorbed slowly and the fine shards of eggshells just don't stay in a chickens digestive system long enough to get into the blood stream.

Yea, I agree it sounds like it'll work but there is no scientific proof that feeding egg shells has any benefits other than making your garbage bag just a few grams lighter.
