I have two EE's and they are plenty aggressive to get the food they need. One of mine, Ethel, will even peck the reds when she needs more food. One of my reds is smaller than the others and it is because she's not aggressive enough to get as much food as she needs but Im handling that.
I'd go with the energy issue. She's probably preserving energy and will go back to laying the medium size, soon.
