Egg song but no egg

I just heard the egg song from my white leghorn and went out to check but there was no egg? I'm newer to chickens so this is a little confusing to me. Any help is appreciated!

it happens. I don't know what the explanation is, but it happens here every now and then and seems to be inconsequential. Usually the bird that does it lays the next day.
BTW, although traditionally we call it an egg song, I am persuaded by Shadrach (article on the same) that it is an escort call rather than an egg song, and therefore the hen doing it is just calling for someone to lead her back to the flock.

Yes. Egg songs are also territorial songs, or they’re used as alarm calls
