Hey all, our BO pullet is at 9 weeks now, and this morning I could have SWORN I heard her doing the egg song - bok bok bok bok bok bok bok bok bok bok BAGAWK bok bok ...etc etc etc for about a full minute.

Now I know it's too early for her to be laying, so what was it about?

The egg song isn't just reserved for eggs.

I have a young Polish pullet who will not be laying this season, as they are not winter layers. But she still cackles and clucks and sings when she is startled. If a squirrel hops on a path nearby, she'll start singing to save her life and she'll keep doing it. I think the egg-song is generally a song of warning. Warning about an egg, warning about a noise, strange light, movement, even warning about ANOTHER hen laying an egg, etc. Also, they can sometimes chime in when they hear someone else doing it.
