Egg Song?? Egg Squat??

Mine got very vocal before they began laying and then they'd be on their nest making the Bawking egg song. If you are seeing them spending time in their nest and you've got a squatter then it could be any minute!

I have one GC that began laying last week (again, one week from first squat) and she has a pale smaller comb and wattles. She's laid faithfully every day since...even laying one JUMBO egg in there. Now to get the other two laying. One is squating so should be soon.

I think I heard the egg song this morning from my red stars??? I ran outside (yes Ran) and they both were doing the bawk, bawk, Bawwwwkkk. But they stopped shortly when they saw me. The odd thing is the rooster was copying them. Was I hearing it wrong? Listened to the link from utube like, I dunno, 4 times and it sounded just like that.

i have had two eggs today, watch one being layed, and no egg song at all. but they are just getting started so they'll learn I guess. mine are 17 weeks!! woo hoo got some early girls

I just watched my black hen do the egg squat! She actually laid an egg too!
She got all fluffy and the rooster was almost coaching her (she is only 5 months old!) She squatted and looked under herself then out popped the egg! She examined it and walked away. The rooster checked it out too and crowed! No egg song though. She also laid it under the tree in my back yard and not in the coop. Since she is so young, I hope she gets to laying in the coop like the other young hens.

The egg had a really soft shell.

One of our pullets is jumping into each of the nest boxes to check them out. She's sung the egg song twice this morning.

She's like the boy who cried wolf. The whole family runs out there, but no eggs yet. Is this an any day now behavior or any hour now behavior?

This is hilarious to me, when the roo imitates the hens; I guess he thinks he is helping. Or they will crow over the nest as if to say, I'm the daddy here.... Or they just ignore the whole thing....

My pullets have begun squatting within the last couple of days, have bright red wattles & combs, and have begun a very loud BAWK BAWK BAWK. But it's not an egg song. And no eggs yet, drat the little feathery beasts!

They are certainly beautiful, though. I wish they'd hold still so I could get a really, really nice picture.

It's funny but you definately know when it's the egg song. Here is another you tube video. It's perfect. When I played it for the girls they stopped doing, stood straight up with their heads held high and listened intently. Too funny!! Hoping they'll run right to their nest and lay! Haha
