We have 4 chickens (2 BO, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 EE) and they are 22 weeks old. One of the BOs started laying on Saturday and she is kind of quiet while she lays her egg. The only reason I knew something exciting was happening on Saturday, was because the other BO was singing like there was no tomorrow. She's super loud and does the "egg song" I've heard about the entire time the other one is laying her egg. When the BO lays her egg, the other one finally shuts up. So, what's up with this?? I thought the egg song was supposed to come from the chicken actually laying the egg.

I only have one girl that sings the egg song ans that is my delaware. The rest are stealth layers. The only reason I know I have an egg is because the rooster crows and crows and crows. Then I come and get it out of the nest box. He goes into the hen house and stares at me as I collect the egg as if he were witnessing me take his offspring (bad case of stink eye.) Than he is quiet again until the next egg comes.
