Egg Song or Screeching?

Do we call it an egg song to be polite to our chickens or are mine just broken? There is nothing song-like about them when they lay...it sounds more like cawing and screeching than anything. The other day, it almost sounded like a horse’s whinny except louder and repetitive. Sometimes they do the bok bok BOKBOK bok...you know, like the chicken noise little kids are taught. But mostly, just really uncomfortable-sounding noises.

To me, egg "song" does sound almost identical to the distress call (predator alarm). When my first birds first started "singing the egg song" I thought they were in distress, possibly egg bound trying to start laying and got them some oyster shells.

It sounds like joyful laughter to me.



Maybe I just laugh funny.
