Hello All!

I’m not sure if I’m on the right thread, but I have a few questions about an egg stand. We would like to start selling our eggs, but are unsure on how to go about setting up an egg stand.I was hoping someone on here would have experience/advice on how we can do this successfully.
1) What kind of eggs should we use in the stand? By this I mean, should we wash our eggs and leave them in there unrefrigerated? Or do we use unwashed eggs. I never wash my eggs unless I have to.
2) We live in an area that gets extremely cold during winter. How do we avoid frozen eggs? Do we need to add a heater, or will insulation be sufficient?
3) Can I see some pictures of your egg stands?!

Any other recommendations/advice is very much welcome. Thank you in advance.

I don't have an egg stand...but, would imagine you would need to experiment with whether or not you wash the eggs. Some people may not "like" unrefrigerated eggs, since that is not what they are accustomed to from the store.

I pass a house that has a hand painted sign for eggs, with an arrow pointing down. The sign is posted on a fence by their driveway. Under the sign is a rubbermaid tote. I assume there are eggs in the tote and they are doing the honor system.

First off check what your restrictions are (local, county, state) on sales of eggs. There may be rules about signage, or how cold the eggs must be stored at, etc.

Unwashed WASHED eggs should never be left unrefrigerated. Washing removes the bloom, which keeps bacteria out.

I am also setting up an egg stand. Not much information on BYC. Which is a shame because BYC has been a fountain of information for me.

I sell mine at the end of my driveway. I have a small table, umbrella , coffee can for money and a sign.

I place mine in a large cooler with frozen water bottles to keep them cool and change out the bottles daily.

I keep mine refrigerated and do not wash. If the egg is very dirty, i dont use it for selling.

In the winter months they can also be kept in the cooler to prevent freezing. Without the frozen water bottles.

I sell my eggs but I don't have an egg stand or an egg sign.
I don't wash my eggs, I leave that up to the buyer. I do date the eggs by writing on them with a pencil they day they were laid.
Selling eggs started with talking about my chickens and someone asking if I would sell them. I only have 16 hens and they don't lay every day, I also have some older hens that don't lay as often. I have 5 people who consistently purchase 2-3 dozen eggs at a time.
My sister also does word of mouth for selling eggs, she isn't comfortable having strangers stop by their house when her husband isn't around.
My cousin puts out a sign but had to remove the sign because she couldn't keep up with all the new customer wants. Now she has no sign because she has frequent customers.
