Egg stepped on and broken, chick still alive!

Can you please keep me updated

this morning she is alive and still in about the same position. Her head is more more out and her one leg is now free. She opens her eyes sometimes. The membrane looks less yellow at the bottom and the blood is less noticeable too. She had a piece of shell poking her eye so I removed that portion for her so as to not damage the eye but left her butt in the membrane as it has been. I’m going to take her to the vet today and to work with me so I can monitor progress. I’m afraid she’ll get tired after fighting so long to get out. I’ll give you updates as I have them.

Yay!! Great news. She finally shed her membrane and her yolk sac was absorbed! All that was left was what looked like a tiny umbilicus. The vet said they think she’ll make it! She’s standing and walking and chirping and drank some. She didn’t eat much only one little bite. I put her back with my Broody after she dried off and seemed strong and mom accepted her right away. She quieted down and fell asleep under mom with her “sister” who’s about double her size. We named her Joy because of how much joy it gave to watch her fight so hard and succeed (at least so far). She doesn’t have very normal looking fluff. The pics I’m attaching are when she was still wet from me keeping the membrane wrapped in warm rag. I really didn’t think she’d make it at first but so far so good.

Great update! Keep them coming as she grows please.

We had a late hatcher (about 48 hrs after, though still under mama, she was extremely patient) and he was much smaller and weaker than the others. I hand fed him mush and syringe him a small amount of water a few times in the first 48 hrs but he is keeping up and doing great now. Still the runt but keeping up and surviving.

Update today: Joy looked weak this morning. I gave her a few drops of dilute maple syrup water (for the sugar) with one drop diluted nutridrench and she perked up some. I decided one more day at work with me so I could monitor better was a good idea so off to the office she went. I ended up tube feeding her some Harrison’s critical care formula because she wasn’t eating yet and she perked right up in about ten minutes. She screamed her head off most of the day for being left alone but once our clients left I finished my paperwork with her happily perched on my shoulder laying in my hair. We got home and she seems to have readjusted back to mom right away although I think she’s a little slow to follow what she’s supposed to be doing. (Ie: when mom goes back to the nest for a rest she just stands there confused wondering why mom left). Hopefully things get easier for her soon. She’s much stronger today though and I’m encouraged by her progress.
