chicken has a prolapsed vent I soaked her with Spain’s salts applied cortisone cream and honey and can get it pushed back it for a bit until she pushes it back out again I suspect she has an egg stuck as she is doing the penguin stance but she is pooping help please

Can you see a bulge or egg shape, and can you insert a finger just into the vent to check for an egg? Is she passing any poop? It is good that you can get the prolapes tissue back inside, since exposure to air can dry out the tissue and become dead or necrotic. Keep it moist at all times, and when you push it inside, hold her on your lap and hold it inside for a few minutes until she relaxes.

If there is an egg coming, that can be more dangerous. A vet may be helpful. Here is some reading about prolapsed vents:

Here is a graphic YouTube video of an egg bound hen with a prolapse:

I would lubricate and try as best as you can to maneuver and get the egg out. Sometimes it can be hard to find the vent opening. That is why I posted the video, to see what that person did. I have never had a prolapse in my hens.

Oops, I forgot to mention, that you should give her some calcium to help her pass the egg. Human calcium tablet with D3, such as generic Caltrate are fine, as are a Tums if you can get that into her. Crush the calcium tablet and feed with a small amount of scrambled egg. Give water. Try placing her on a moist towel on top of a heating pad set to LOW, and check to see that it doesn’t get too hot.

I would keep pushing the prolapse back in if you cannot see the egg. Once the crisis of the egg is over, keep her in a dark place or covered crate for 16 hours a day, then let her out to eat and drink for the remaining 8 hours of daylight a day. It can take 3 days to stop her from laying temporarily to allow her vent to heal. Once a hen has a prolpase, it can happen again in the future.
