Ok want to buy a Hovabator incubator.
Now i see they come with and without fans.(needed i am sure) but they also come with or without turners.

How important is it to have a turner?
If you dont have one do you open the lid to turn each egg twice or more a day as i have read?
And is there more danger to disturbing the temp and humidity by doing that?

I am just wondering how important is is to have a turner or if it is just a little convenience that you for sure dont need.?

Would like some opinions before i commit since i am so green in this new chicken hobby.
Thanks in advance to any who answer.

Fan needed, Turner is a up to you. I enjoy turning my eggs by hand. Has to be an odd number each day. 3,5 ect. And they shouldnt cool to much when u open the top. Plenty of people turn their own eggs and have great hatch rates. But if your super busy a turner may work best for you. Best of luck!

I love my turner. This hatch I put some eggs on the side that I had to turn by had. I forgot a time or two to turn them. You can get more eggs in without a turner and some enjoy turning the eggs. If you get a turner you can always do a hatch without the turner too. You do have to take the turner out for hatching. Have fun with hour eggs.

I'm glad to see the responses on this. I just got a Hovabator as well, and I only got the turner with it because I found a package deal. I wasn't sure how necessary it really was. Perhaps I'll try some with and some without it, although I'm busy enough that the turner may save me!

I just picked up some eggs from a lady down the road who has a rooster. All hers just happen to be Barred Rock. They say to start with cheep eggs. I know a few others who have roosters with their chickens but those weren't for me. I am, I hope, going to try Trader Joe's eggs. The lady I get my eggs from sells to the health food store.
