I could post a picture, but I am sure that if you have gotten an egg like this, you know what I mean. One of our browns routinely lays eggs that seem to have calcium deposit on them. You can easily scratch it off with your finger nail and it leaves no mark on the egg. Any ideas as to what it could be or what causes it?

Thanks

well when the egg is formed it starts just a yolk then the whites gather and then the shell is formed most eggs arent smooth but with little bumps on it this is just left over shell and its nothing to worry about :)

It is called calcium deposits. Possible causes for it is a defective shell gland, disturbance during calcification or excess calcium in the hens' diet. It does look unattractive, but the egg will still be fine to eat.
