i know this is probably going to set some of you guys off.( or at least you) but come on i'm not stupid. i wont make the same mistakes twice.

It's not the hatching.

It's what happens AFTER the hatching. Suddenly, you go from "inert things" to a living, breathing, blinking, pooping, growing creature that has specific needs.

I imagine the reason your chick stopped peeping when you placed your hand over him (mentioned in one of your previous posts) is because it got warm and dark, and he was suddenly "under mama."

Every one makes mistakes hatching (except me. hahahaha... haha.. hmm). I promise no one is getting on you for honest ignorance. You learn as you hatch so you can hatch better, and the thousands of years of combined experience on BYC makes this a *perfect* place to hone your skills. Iron sharpens iron, they say.

The part that ruffles our feathers, so to speak, and I feel I speak for all my peeps in the thread, is that once the fuzzy butts make the scene, there doesn't appear to be a place for them to, you know, GO. And there are more on the way....

We didn't mean stop hatching chicks. We just meant pause hatching until you are better set up to care for them as they develop. And by this, we mean an appropriate brooder until they are fully feathered and can go outside. :)

I'm sorry you think we are being too harsh with this situation.  My issues is that if someone comes here to learn and fix mistakes, why is there all the second guessing and questioning of the advice given?  The chick is living in an incubator.  Not much more needs to be said.  If this were a foal and this was a horse forum, little Peeps would have been thrown to the wolves by now and Animal Control would have been called to the house.  Chicken folk are much kinder and more tolerant of the "newbies" and I think Peeps has been treated more than fairly by everyone.  Just my two cents.  I hope the chick finds a new home ASAP where he will have a buddy and proper care.  I also hope Peeps has learned he/she is not ready or prepared to care for chicks and will not hatch more until the mom gives her permission.

I'm sorry, you misunderstood me. I was saying that often times people are harsh (thanks for the warning, I wont visit any horse forums) but this time, everyone have been quite nice and not so harsh. Well, maybe a little harsh, but in a polite way, and not in a mean, condescending way. I think the help offered has been wonderful and I think the OP is more likely to take nice advice than rudeness. No one here has been rude, like sometimes happens. That's what I was trying to say.

Very good! Are you safely able to maintain 95F under the lamp? If so, things should go better for you and your chick and your eggs.
