Hi everyone! I have a pullet that recently started laying about two days ago. When we went to let them out of the coop and into the pen there was some yolk in the coop and there was a blob of an egg without a shell. My husband thinks maybe she pecked off the shell but I am beginning to wonder if she laid it without the shell since she is still new to laying? Maybe the shell didn’t form properly? She seems fine. Thoughts?

Sometimes it can be because shes a new layer, and sometimes it can be not enough calcium. I personally have quail and they laid a few shell-less eggs but ever since I gave them an eggshell bowl I havent seen any blobs. Good luck with your shell-less adventure!

Thanks! They have had a separate bowl of oyster shells probably the past week and I have them on layer feed. She is part of a bunch of pullets and a few of them started laying about two weeks ago. This pullets first two eggs were fine. It was just this third one.
