What does it mean if a hen lays an egg without the shell?
There are several reasons why a hen may lay a shelless egg. Sometimes it is because they aren't getting enough calcium. Stress can also cause a hen to lay an egg without a shell. Occaisonally, a hen may lay an egg without a shell due to some sort of glitch or fluke in the reproductive tract. Older hens, or hens new to laying, are especially likely to lay soft shelled eggs.
