today in my nest box i found an egg with sort of thinner shell than usual with an umbilical cord looking thing attached to it. it looks sort of like a squishy looking blood vessel and it was covered in blood.
what the heck is this thing?
    are my hens okay?
i'm not sure which hen laid it but my hens are two silkies one splash and one white. they were already laying for years when i bought them from another BYC member so its not their first egg.
    what's wrong?

sorry i can't post pictures since my dad took my camera. i will try to update with pictures later. please help.

Sometimes it happens - looks like a little gourd.

    How are her eggs now?
