egg yolk peritonitis? My buff Orpington is sick

Update on Sunny today: she still won't eat, but she's drinking water and up and walking around the bathroom today. She's had a lot more of that same poo I posted pictures of yesterday.

Hello! I'm sorry to hear your having trouble. I know you mentioned ascites being a possibility, and a lot of the things you mentioned sound like it. It's actually a side effect of an underlying problem, which could possibly be organ failure. In my experience clear mucous in nose occurs, which I assume is because of the internal pressure on the lungs. Personally I would recommend trying to grain her if she starts getting bad, it can give them relief and possibly prolong her life. I'll link my last account of my hen with ascites, hope it can be helpful in diagnosing your hen! Also, you could try some probiotics in her water to aid her digestive system. I noticed with my last girl she didn't eat much before I drained her, due to feeling full from fluid build up. The thing that worked for her was fresh fruits and veggies, along with plenty of exercise. Hope this was helpful! Keep us posted! https://www.backyardchickens.com/posts/18897671/

How would I drain her? And yes we tried normal chicken food and she didn't eat it. she still has no interest in food but she's standing and moving a bit. I have a new picture of her poo i would like you to analyze. There are a couple chunks in it, but that's good that got pushed into it. She didn't eat it.

The poop is sick poop. Does it have a very putrid odor? Or is it no worse than chicken poop usually smells like? You would know the difference if you smelled it. Bacteria has a way of transforming ordinary poop smell into something that is utterly gagging.

Let's go to bed tonight with the hope that your hen will show more improvement by morning and will be willing to eat.

If she's the same, then I'm afraid we're looking at tumors in her reproductive tract or maybe even on other organs as well. And that would mean she isn't going to get better. I would expect the antibiotic to cause her to show some improvement by tomorrow if it was going to do anything.

Here's a vid from YouTube that I found helpful,
there are lots of them. I would only do it if your sure that's what she has, does she have an ammonia or urine like smell? You can compare her with your other girls to see how swollen her abdomen is, also, you can check and see if her belly is pressing against her legs tightly, which is why they sometimes have a peinguin stance. There are some risks involved with draining, so I would research first and use it if your sure. Hope this helps! I would sterilize the needle inside and out with alcohol as well as the injection site too.
