I guess the title says it all. 2 year old serama hen eggbound. Passed a few small shell bits, egg still in there, can't see it, been 24 hours. I called all 8 vet clinics in the area. 6 treated birds. At least they did until i mentioned the word "chicken". Aren't chickens birds? They don't think so!
1) What type of bird , age and weight. Serama. 2 years. 14 ozs
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Lethargic, wings down.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. N/A
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. She has calcium. I have no idea!
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. I gave her orally by eye dropper a mixture of white Karo syrup (for a quick energy boost to pass that egg), olive oil (helps provide slip) and milk (to give her a much-needed calcium boost), and electrolytes. helpedalot.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. normal
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? That mixture + warmth.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?N/A
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use Coop with 1 other hen,1rooster. Wood floor.
