Eggbound hen

I have a 5 month old RIR hen that seems to be eggbound, This morning she was standing in the corner kind of hunched. and this afternoon she is still there

I felt around her belly and found a lump. Most of my hens just started laying a few weeks ago. should I put her in a bucket of warm water or lube her vent with something?

She still eats and drinks a little, and there was a little pile of poo under her, but she stayed inside by herself when everyone else went outside. She is a good hen and I would hate to lose her.

I have not had this happen to me - but have read post on here that say warm bath and massage the area. But hang in there some one will answer you shortly I'm sure.

We had a BPR who was egg bound. My husband gloved up with latex gloves and put neosporin on his finger and put it up her cloaca. He could feel the egg from the inside and did his best to get lube all the way around it. We also brought her inside and put her under warm blankets etc for a while. She eventually laid the egg (and then went broody but that's another story).
I think getting something slickery up the tube definitely helps. Also lets you feel if there is an egg.

Ditto on the warm bath and massage. I've never had it happen, but I've read it on here many times.

She is in a bucket of warm water now, in the bathtub, and seems quiet content to sit and soak

should i keep her inside, like in a warm dark place? I have an old dog crate she can stay in. how long might it take for the egg to come out? And how often should i give the warm water treatment? so many questions

I think I'd be in there with her, massaging her abdomen.

Haven't tried this before. Hope someone with experience in this method posts a reply!

Have been watching your post all day to see how your hen is doing. I searched for posts posted by "threehorses" the author always has such great advice and here is a post about egg bound that is really good and has good detail from both threehorses and another author.

Thanks for the link. That sounds exactly like my hen. She seems to have perked up a little still half standing, but eating, drinking, and pooping fine.

She's still eating, drinking, and pooping. the three necessities of life. the lump isn't very close to her vent, more between and slightly behind her legs, and seems to cause enough discomfort so that she doesn't want to lay down

. Just wandering if she could have any other possible ailment other than being eggbound? Been giving warm water baths, feeding yogurt, and oatmeal, and eye dropping oil in and around vent. I guess all i can to is keep her warm and quiet, and wait
