Eggbound or something else?

Thanks for the advice, aart, however I could not bring myself to watch the video.  I know... total wuss.  My parents are still confused on what kind of farm girl they raised (it was nothing for my mom to put on pot of boiling water and head outside with a hatchet as soon as I'd come in crying that the rooster attacked me)!  My dad has a friend who is a retired vet and he said he would euthanize her however she is making a turn around.

Thank you, casportpony. I checked out the links and the only avian vet I found, which was still 100 miles away, had a recorded message stating "due to illness the office will be closed for several weeks".    What can I give as an anti-inflammatory, or as a pain reliever?  I come from a horse world where bute and banamine cure everything!

Hey Trisha.Im so sorry about your bird.To me, it looks just like a lash egg.But I could be wroung.Im praying she gets better.

Thank you cluckcluck1215. I forgot to mention when I got home from work last night I went out to where I threw the lash-egg lookalike and cut it open as aart suggested, and it was nothing but yolk inside.

We are really close to the 24 hour mark of her eating and drinking on her own, and being alert. This is her now; look at that healthy comb!!


I don't have any IMMEDIATE plans for putting her back with the flock, but I just started a new thread asking how to go about it considering the drastic temperature change.

Just wanted to add an update on my girl. She is better but not well. Still quite the mystery. I returned her to the flock Saturday morning, and she did great until afternoon I noticed she was laying and standing around a lot, fluffed up and not moving much. She did this for about 3-4 hours, then snapped out of it and acted normal again. Yesterday...same thing. Today I was unable to observe her but she looked fine this morning and fine on the roost this evening. Its almost like she has episodes of pain that incapacitate her for 3-5 hours.

What is even stranger is through all this she has had normal poops (except for the 24 hours she went without eating) and a bright erect comb even though she looked like she was at death's door. She has not laid a "real" egg in a week now, and no egg "junk" (like a yolk or the white) since Thursday. She hasn't even tried (not going to the nest box or straining).

I have made 27 phone calls to vets within a 100 mile radius of me and no one will see a chicken. Not even farm vets. Incredibly frustrating!! So I guess all I can do now is wait and watch and hope for the best.

My little lady is 1 year 7 months and had first signs of unusual poop last summer and I could not find anything online on it. Now I have, and wondering if you are also seeing small yellowish globs in her poop ever? They looked like small wet peanuts to me. It is a sign of peritonitis, which is common in these breeds. Wish I could post a pic on here for you. I have her residing in my bathtub at the moment while figuring out the next steps.

I am so sorry to hear that! Only once, a few days ago, she pooped a yellow foamy poop. I was worried it was yolk so I referred to the poop chart and saw it could be a cecal poop, and since her poop before that was normal and I haven't seen it again I chalked it up to cecal. I hope you can find a vet and have her checked out. If you do let me know what you find out. Good luck.
