Eggland’s best egg, chicken food Layer mini pellets

I've never fed mine layer pellets or layer crumbles. I feed them an all flock type of feed and offer oyster shells free choice in a separate container. This way I don't have to worry if someone is laying or not, if I have babies or not or if I have a rooster or not. Everyone eats the same feed and the laying hens get their calcium as they need it. Usually the all flock has a higher protein content compared to most layer feed. So when they get scraps/greens/treats, I have wiggle room on the protein level.

Best thing is to find something they like that is easy for you to get. Nothing worse than finding a good feed then have trouble getting it. Everyone feeds a little different. Find what works for you. :)
I’m too broke to be buying one baby chick that

I bought the EB mini layer pellets when mine first started laying. I used those to transition them to layer pellets. At my TS, they were not much more expensive than the Purina brand.

Like @henless I don't feed layer. A bird that is not laying does not require the same levels of calcium that a laying hen does, and I would argue that even there, each hen has individual needs.

I feed growers pellets to all of my birds after 6 weeks of age; it actually has a better protein content than layer, but most importantly it lacks the high levels of calcium. I also provide mixed poultry grit and oyster shell, in separate containers. This works well for me, as I run a large flock of various ages, with several cockerels, and the birds are able to self-regulate their calcium needs. All-flock feed is not available locally, however I am unsure as whether there is a dissimilarity to grower, possibly again in protein content.

Your silkie is too young to be laying just yet, therefore she does not require the high calcium content in layer feed. I would argue that a silkie, a breed known for frequent brooding, would not suit layer.
