We are incubating chickens for the first time. Today is the morning of day 24 and the eggs have not hatched and no movement. The temp has been at 100 the entire incubation cycle. They are in a Genesis incubator. The humidity has been between 35-55 the entire cycle as well.

We have not candled them all and some of them are starting to smell in the incubator. My question is should I candle them since they are in the lock down phase. I pulled one out this morning and I do see some veining and the baby is on one side of the egg with the clear space on the other side.

This is our first time incubating and I do not want to get impatient and start messing with them too much, but also think that it may be time to candle them all and get the ones that have not developed out of the incubator.

My girls are so sad that the may not hatch. We will give it another go, but hope that this batch is not lost. We pulled the egg turner out at day 18. Can not figure out what we could have missed for them not to hatch. Thanks for any recommendations on what to do.

What was humidity on? Temp? if you can take the stinky ones out?, maybe candle them but be sure to place them on the SAME side as they were on......hope all goes well:hugs

Temp has been at 100 degrees and the humidity ranged between 35-55% for the entire cycle. Usually on the lower end of that range. We have kept it higher over the last few days. I also saw where you can water test them. Would you recommend it?

I don't think i would recommend it, what if the test was wrong....live chick in bin......not nice:sick

Yep, I am hesitant to do anything, but wanted to see if there was a way to see movement. Our babysitter has been helping us and she has hatched eggs 8 times. We are sort of at a loss as to what went wrong and we are bummed that we are not seeing any progress. We have 34 eggs and for not one to hatch seems like something went drastically wrong. We are all set up and ready to go for the babies. So sad. How long should we wait passed today? Day 24 this morning.

I HATE saying this......but maybe you could sacrifice one.....check whats wrong....:hit:hit:hit:hiti hated saying that! Its soooooooo hard!

I know. This whole thing is breaking my heart a bit. Barely slept worrying about these baby chicks. Waiting for my daughter to wake up and we will candle them all and let you know what we see. The one I candled this morning looked good to me, but I don't know exactly what I am looking for either since this is our first time.
