eggs are not hatching

Baby chicks seem hot with the red light so I turned it off for the night. Do they really need it if I'm keeping them inside? They were panting they were so hot.

Yes they need it they should be 90 to 95 degrees their first week you need to leave it on and raise it up to get around those temps. I prefer to have a large enough brooder so they can just move away to a cooler spot if they are to hot but they definitely need the heat room temperature isn't warm enough

You can try the purple heat bulb - again Walmart has them for $3.99.
They are meant for reptiles but it works perfect for the chicks and they sleep at night well with it on. It's a 60 watt bulb.

Panting isn't a good thing- it was good you turned it off!
Keep playing around with the brooder light (placement & height) until the chicks seem happy with it. I say just keep the bulb on one side of the brooder coming directly from the top so there is a cool end to the brooder and they can come and go as they please in the heated end.

A long story but my hen was on eggs, other hens messed up the eggs and nest box and we had to throw them away. There were four eggs left that were clean and looked viable so this time we put eggs and hen into a coop by herself with clean eggs and nest box. She has already been nesting around 20 days. I don't know how old these eggs are. How much longer can she nest? Will she wait until the eggs hatch? She seems content - she is eating, drinking and exercising in the run. What should I do?
