Eggs cold for 24 hours....viable embryos...UPDATE 6/8 hatched.

I always do a 'quick snatch' of chicks who are fully fluffed up. I use an R-com 20 which constantly measures the humidity, so know that the humidity doesn't drop off for long at all. If taken into a steamy bathroom or if there's a wet sponge in there, then the time is very little indeed.

I opened up my incubator to place in a non-slip mat and a sponge a few hours ago, and two of the eggs cheeped when I lifted them, so I am hopeful. I am only on day 21 (or day 20 if the 24 hours with no power and temperatures down to below 50 degrees is taken out).

Georgia531, sounds as though you are going to get a pretty good hatch. Good Luck.

i will say this about this hatch compared to last one... i already have more bantys than i got all together last time...besides the egg cartons, the only other think i did different was hand turn... i read it works better for the tiny ones.. starting to like the cartons though.. no eggs rolling around from these early birds.. Best of luck to you PG.

Ok now what? the 5 (yes 5) baby seramas and seabrights are standing on top of the egg carton/egg and their heads are practically touching the heat element... im going to have to snatch them.. i have 5 pips 1 is completely through almost a zip... could i do the shower thing again? i didnt want to open it again, but im going to have to.. last time it didnt seem like the humidity dropped at all... my bathroom was FULL of steam... what should i do?

Steam up the bathroom and leave the newest one to keep the one that's zipped company. Start enjoying your babies you didn't think you would have!

I'm proud for you, Georgia!

The chick that is in my profile pic is one we had to just take out of the shell because I let the humidity get too high. From what I've gathered, as long as you have 60% or higher you are good, but pushing 80% is just too high.
Hope you have a great hatch.

I did the shower snatch..i gotta say, it seems to stimulate more to hatch.. i have 10 so far... 2 seabrights, 2 Americaunas, and 6 serama x OEG red pyle...(3 of which are white).. I am PSYCHED

... also have 9 pips...this hatch is going better than the last one for the tiny ones.. my temp was a little higher (except for the power outage) and i used almost no water till lockdown.. could it be the cartons?? or the hand turning?? i believe the hand turning made the difference for the tiny ones.. not sure.. will i use cartons again? yes. the only thing is the Americaunas standing on the eggs in the cartons their heads reach the heating element.. going to cut more of the carton away next time. I have pictures but my camera battery just died... will show off tomorrow.. I have been up since 5, i also had to pick up 40 Meyers Barred Rock peeps this morning at the post office.. what a day... thanks for all the support, you guys are great.... one more event today that is notable is the OEG hens that the tiny eggs came from, decided go broody together.. they are sitting on 14 more eggs !! Here they are... The girlfriends...

I wish all of you hatching the best of luck.. i got lucky this time ...pictures tomorrow.

Well, I have a chick out and there are a few more which have pipped (only 8 in total).

So, eggs in an incubator without power for 24 hours with temperatures below 50 degrees F can and do hatch.
