I am writing this because coincidentally I had two separate issues today from my two layers. They have been laying perfectly until today. Their daily routine is, I let them out to free range in the back yard, then put them in at night and they have layer feed in the run/coop.

The Black Australorp laid a small egg about half the size of normal, but other then the extra small size, the shell was perfect.

The White Leghorn laid a soft egg, no shell, very rubbery.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is the first time this has happened for either of them and I found it strange that they both had an egg issue today.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for responding. They are both 7 1/2 months old. Not really any stress or routine change as far as I can see. It has been cold the last couple of days. 28 at night and 50 during the day which is a little colder then they are used to. Been laying for about 2 months.

They are new to laying. There can be hiccups as their bodies adjust to laying. I wouldn't worry unless it becomes a regular occurrence. Make sure you have oyster shell available that they can take as they need it.
