I have a broody hen sitting on 8 eggs. When I went to check on her today she was up off of them and didn't make a bee line back to them when she saw me in the coop like she usually does. Well she had too eggs that exploded! Yuck!! The other 6 eggs were covered in grossness so I wiped them off completely but a couple of them already had ants on them :( I'm wondering if they will still be OK. We use empty plastic cat litter boxes for our broody hens so I got her a couple new box with new nesting materials. I wanted to wash her off but there was no way she was allowing that! She ran right back in there to sit on them. Really hoping they are OK. This is our second try for chicks. We had three beautiful babies earlier but we had a feral cat get them :(

Darn! That's what I was afraid of . They still have 6 days to go. Do you think I should leave them under her? Or candle them maybe?

I have another broody sitting on six that are a day younger. Wondering if I should candle those too? I'm obviously new at this!!!

You can candle the eggs to see if you can see any movement. Are you writing dates on your eggs and keeping track of when they should hatch?

I get all my eggs from a neighbor since I don't currently have a rooster. They were all laid the same day (the other broody has some that were laid a day later) so I assumed they should all have the same hatch day. Is that correct?

Oh that's good to know! That was also the same day since my girl was broody on fake eggs and then we switched them out with the fertilized eggs. Fingers crossed they are OK!!
