need Some help. We let a hen go broody and she did a good job on sitting on the eggs. One I’m new to this and didn’t mark the eggs so the 3 eggs we planned on hatching turn to 5. So about 21 or 22 days later we came out in the morning and one egg hatched but the baby chick was pecked at. Long story short she died. But we tried to save her.
But for the reason I’m here. 2 eggs were at the beginning of the process and I didn’t want the broody hen to starve herself so we took the eggs and put them into an incubator. But I’m not sure how far along they are. And I don’t know when I need to take the egg turner out. We’ve had the eggs in the incubator for 10 days now. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Hens have gone broody since their very existence began. They will not starve themselves, usually taking breaks a few times a day, often when no one is about to see.

As for the eggs in the incubator, use a bright flashlight to candle them and compare what you see to egg development charts you can find online. The egg charts will show what the eggs look like on any day of development. Should you remove the egg turner a day or so early, it will not matter and cause no problems with hatching. Should problems occur it won't have anything to do with removing the turner.
