and I thought the same thing but the sussex breeder in Tasmania said that he crossed a sussex with a Rhode island red and got a bird that mainly looked like a light sussex but with gray/black flecks down it's back ( all of mine have this ) and I can't remember what colour legs he said his had but the light sussex should always have white legs and mine ( well all but 1 ) have orange legs. So I either have all crosses or two crosses and one bad quality light sussex.
