EGGS HATCHING!! questions about peeping and piping

Hi Cat! love the name. Not all of my eggs have chirpped, peeped, cheeped, etc! You can read some other responses at the thread
Should you always hear chripping before they hatch??

I don't know if you would hear the peeping under a broody. I have only hatched under a broody once, and I didn't hear anything until the chicks actually hatched. Then I could hear them on my Nest Cam, and they popped up very soon after. I've realized that sometimes you lose chicks and chickens. All you can do is love them while you have them. Please keep us posted. You may get more info from some of the other more experienced members. I'm only 11 months into the whole chicken addiction!

Well, all those fluffy feathers must have been soundproofing any peeping. When I disturbed the hen, she did the dinosaur growl and puffed up so much she lifted off the nest and I heard peeping. Of the 10 eggs, I got these two cuties; one EE and one BLRW.

Congratulations! I never thought about the feathers being sound insulating - makes sense since they also provide warmth!

you must have a hygrometer. the humidity should be perfect other wise you'll lose a whole bunch
